The new facility is set to open in November, addressing one of the significant challenges women entrepreneurs face, including expensive and difficult-to-access commercial spaces. Jill Morenz, president of Aviatra Accelerators, highlighted the issue: “Many women operate their businesses from home or in rather informal settings due to high costs.” This model of using coffee shops for client meetings instead of a traditional office space leaves an economic gap that her organization aims to bridge by providing services at below-market rates.
“It would be incredibly beneficial to have an office that I truly own,” says Zigoris, founder of The High Road Leadership Consulting. “Having dedicated office space would allow me to fully immerse myself in my business.” Zigoris has been operating her company from a home office, where distractions from family and friends were prevalent. She believes a well-structured office environment is essential to provide her with the necessary services for her clients, referring to it as “a sacred and safe space for me to help people progress and grow.”
Since its founding in 2016, Aviatra Accelerators has catered to the growing demand for resources that support women-led businesses in Northern Kentucky. As a nonprofit organization, it offers affordable office space, extensive networking opportunities, mentorship programs, and conference halls, fostering a vibrant ecosystem for women entrepreneurs.
The current economic climate presents additional challenges for small businesses, especially with rising commercial rents. Research by the Institute for Local Self-Reliance has shown that rents in desirable areas can increase by as much as 7% to 26% each year. Aviatra is taking a proactive approach to alleviate this issue by offering below-market rent advantages to female entrepreneur tenants, allowing them to focus more on business growth rather than the continual rise in costs.
Zigoris, a newly announced incubator, states, “The six-month lease provides me with the flexibility to assess the space and eventually transition to a permanent location within the community.” She expressed her commitment to remaining actively involved in the local entrepreneurial ecosystem.
