Dales Business Women Revitalize Network to Foster Innovation in Rural Yorkshire

The Dales Business Women network, dedicated to connecting and empowering women in business across the Yorkshire Dales, has been revitalized to foster innovation in rural communities. This network comprises professional, entrepreneurial, and self-employed women from the Dales and nearby regions, serving as a crucial support and advisory system for those navigating the complexities of running a business in rural environments.

Founded seven years ago, the group has recently welcomed new leadership with photographer Katy Howe and Alison Laws, senior economic development officer at North Yorkshire Council. Their mission is to boost the network’s visibility in the region and offer local women a platform to connect, exchange ideas, and drive business growth.

North Yorkshire boasts a wealth of entrepreneurial women who share a common goal of success. Although many believe there is limited business potential in rural areas, this group aims to shift that perception. The Dales and its surroundings are home to industrious women making significant contributions.

Highlighting this, North Yorkshire Council leader, Cllr Carl Les, emphasized the importance of connectivity in rural communities: “Groups like Dales Business Women play a crucial role in fostering connections, sharing ideas, and supporting business expansion. In more isolated areas, such networks are essential for addressing the challenges of rural isolation.”

Carolyn Frank, who oversees the Federation of Small Businesses’ (FSB) development in York and North Yorkshire, expresses her enthusiasm for the rebranding effort. “A local network is essential for small businesses, offering opportunities to expand contacts, explore new prospects, and receive business guidance. Most importantly, it nurtures strong, meaningful relationships that support business owners through various challenges.”

The group is known for its friendly and proactive approach, holding monthly meetings at different times to accommodate everyone. The relaunch event took place at the Black Bull in Moulton, conveniently located off the Richmond road, featuring a presentation by Paula Richardson of Smart Bee Sales on maximizing sales in the lead-up to Christmas.

The Dales Business Women network is poised to be a catalyst for new business partnerships and growth in North Yorkshire, providing a platform for women in business to flourish.
