Empowering Female Entrepreneurs: Business Credit Training Program

The CNMI Small Business Development Center Network at Northern Marianas College is excited to announce the inaugural session of the 2024 Women’s Entrepreneurship Project Cohort 4 speakers, in collaboration with the Commonwealth Women’s Association. The session titled “Credit Ecosystem: Commercial Loan & Business Credit” is scheduled to take place from October 15, 2024, to October 18, 2024, at the Northern Marianas College Library in As Terlaje, Saipan.

Esteemed speakers at the opening session include representatives from two major financial institutions: Joanne Aldan, Assistant Vice President and Assistant Branch Manager at Bank of Hawaii, and from First Hawaiian Bank, Vickie Izuka (Vice President & Branch Manager), Vicente Agulto (Assistant Vice President & Business Banking Officer), and Piarose Aguon (Senior Merchant Services Representative).

In the initial segment of the “Credit Ecosystem,” Bank of Hawaii will present the “ABCs of Credit,” which aims to help participants understand essential aspects of credit reporting and scoring, including the significance of maintaining a good credit history and how to rectify any issues that may arise.

The latter part of the session focuses on simplifying the loan application process. Participants will benefit from First Hawaiian Bank’s expertise in navigating business loans and crafting effective applications while gaining insight into the underwriting procedure. This aligns with the objective of building confidence among aspiring business owners by providing valuable insights into what banks seek in ideal clients and the fundamental aspects of their merchant services.

First Hawaiian Bank returns once again, while Bank of Hawaii joins the series for the first time. The banking sessions are consistently among the most sought-after components of the series. They update participants on new developments in banking and enhance their understanding of credit and loan applications.

We value the ongoing support of our banking partners through this initiative. As stated by CNMI SBDC Network Director Nadine C. Deleon Guerrero, “Banks and banking institutions play an essential role in supporting small businesses, particularly during challenging economic times.”
