Exciting New Initiative in Northern Ireland Aims to Empower Women in Tech Start-ups

The Women in Business initiative has introduced ‘Tech Spark NI,’ a new start-up program aimed at supporting up to 20 women in Northern Ireland who have early-stage, innovative tech business ideas. This 12-week program, developed in collaboration with Raise Ventures and powered by Barclays Eagle Labs, is funded by the UK Government’s Digital Growth Grant. It aims to help participants critically assess their ideas while fostering essential professional and commercial skills for business growth.

This program is designed to provide participants with invaluable guidance and insights on establishing a strong local network within the Northern Ireland business community. By the end of the program, attendees will be considerably better equipped to lead their own initiatives.

Lorraine Acheson, Managing Director of Women in Business, stated: “This is a fantastic initiative that will offer women across NI comprehensive support as we strive to nurture their ambitions and talents, providing them with the tools needed to achieve significant progress. Our partnership with Raise Ventures and Barclays Eagle Labs enables us to make a substantial impact for these women and stimulate the local economy.”

Raise Ventures is renowned as one of Northern Ireland’s premier startup hubs, assisting founders with scalable, high-growth ideas. Jenny Ervine from Raise Ventures remarked, “Transitioning from an idea to a commercially viable business can be overwhelming. Many founders, especially women, possess the innovation and ambition to thrive but may need additional knowledge in the tech sector. I am proud that Raise Ventures can support this program to enhance the skills and knowledge of women entrepreneurs.”

The program will advance in collaboration with the British business hubs network, Barclays Eagle Labs. Amanda Allan, Director of Barclays Eagle Labs, expressed, “We are pleased to support the growth of the UK tech sector by aiding startups and entrepreneurs through the Digital Growth Grant. This new initiative underscores our commitment to developing the tech landscape, which is vital for the continual growth of regional economies across the UK.”

Tech Spark NI is dedicated to empowering women entrepreneurs. Their belief that “open data and technology must work together to create a positive impact” drives their mission to equip women entrepreneurs with the necessary tools and networks for success in the tech industry.
