Companies primarily owned by women in the Philadelphia metro area reached a remarkable revenue figure of $875.24 million. This record underscores the resilience and progress of local female entrepreneurs, particularly in the wake of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Back in 2020, revenue for women-owned businesses plummeted to a historic low, with only $495.29 million reported for 76 companies in the 2021 List. Over the past three years, these businesses have experienced unprecedented profit growth, with an average revenue increase of nearly $380 million or a substantial 77 percent.
The primary driver of this significant growth can be attributed to the top 10 firms on the list, which collectively generated $623.15 million, accounting for 71.2% of the total revenue. These diverse companies operate in fields such as construction, staffing, legal services, and laboratory supplies. The previous year, the combined total revenue of the leading ten companies was $452.47 million, making up 65% of the total $690 million in revenue.
